Iranian Parl. discusses ways to thwart US sanctions

TEHRAN, Jul. 03 (MNA) – The head of the Management and Planning Organization of Iran and the minister of industry have attended a Parliament’s session to discuss ways to defeat US sanctions and overall economic situation of the country.

Iranian MP Ali Najafi Khoshroodi, the spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said on Tuesday that the head of the Management and Planning Organization of Iran Mohammad Bagher Nobakht and the Minister of Mine, Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari attended a closed-door session of Iranian Parliament to examine ways how to thwart the US sanctions and the economic situation of the country, including the sharp decline in the value of local currency of rial against US dollar.

Saying that the Parliament could play an effective role in getting out of the current situation, Khoshroodi said that the meeting focused on the sharp increase in the prices of goods and the psychological and economic factors behind the recent currency crisis as well as the foreign pressures against the economy as a whole.

He went on to say that participants at the meeting emphasized that there needed to be consistent and agile actions and mechanisms to resolve the problems.

He added that it was decided to help the government to handle the situation better and overcome the psychological factors behind the problems with smarter information campaigns.

The lawmaker further stressed the need for the government to talk to people in a more transparent way on the situation.
